Terry Schaack, M.D.
Medical Director & Managing Partner
In 2003, while still running his private practice, Dr. Schaack accepted the opportunity to help develop and later lead the California Health & Longevity Institute. After leaving the academic setting of UCLA School of Medicine, he became a Principle Investigator (PI) for privately sponsored clinical research with companies such as Sandoz Pharmaceutical, Laboratory Corporation of America, Google and, more recently, Verily Life Sciences. Throughout his career, his focus on proactive and preventive medicine and high standard of care have given him the opportunity to provide medical care to some of Southern California’s most discerning patients, including those in entertainment, real estate and finance as well as foreign royalty and heads of state (including a president of the United States). It is the opportunity to practice wellness at California Health & Longevity Institute and in his private practice while still participating in emerging research that has made this location the perfect home for Dr. Schaack. He lives in Beverly Hills with his wife, their son and daughter and family pets.

Jonathan R. Cole, M.D.

Dr. Jonathan Cole, a board-certified internist, comes to California Health & Longevity Institute, Inc. with extensive experience in the areas of preventive and internal medicine. As Medical Director, he practices precision medicine which provides a 360 degree tailored approach to patient health and wellness with an emphasis on prevention so that patients live better, longer. Before joining California Health & Longevity Institute, Inc., Cole was a clinical instructor at the prestigious University of Southern California, Keck School of Medicine, with responsibility for teaching medical students the art of history-taking and physical diagnosis. During his career, he also served as the Vice President of Medical Staff for Saint John’s Health Center, elected by his peers to the Executive Board, and asked by the Saint John’s Health Center Trustees to be on the Board Affairs Committee of the Foundation. Dr. Cole has lectured to insurance companies, health and wellness symposiums, and Young Presidents’ Organization groups on many topics including corporate health and wellness and cardiovascular disease prevention.
A graduate of the University of California, San Diego, Dr. Cole holds degrees in Biology and English Literature with a focus on the works of James Joyce. He attended the Chicago Medical School, where he graduated with highest honors in the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. His medical training in internal medicine was completed at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas as well as the Texas Medical Center, where he received the award for “Most Outstanding Resident in Primary Care.” He currently resides in Encino, California with his wife and two daughters and enjoys playing golf and tennis, hiking, and yoga.

Alexis Peraino, M.D.

Dr. Alexis Peraino has an extensive background in internal medicine, obesity medicine, exercise physiology and nutrition and is passionate about the importance of prevention for health and longevity. Dr. Peraino was previously a faculty member in the Department of General Internal Medicine and The Center for Weight Loss at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and continues as an Assistant Clinical Professor Step II in the clinical voluntary series with the David Geffen School of Medicine, UCLA and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Peraino is a frequent lecturer focusing on exercise, nutrition, weight management and preventive care. In 2015, Dr. Peraino authored a chapter in The Clinician’s Guide to the Treatment of Obesity: Physical Activity and Writing an Exercise Prescription. Dr. Peraino has developed a comprehensive approach to patient care, combining preventive care and evidence based medicine to ensure a balanced lifestyle approach to overall health, fitness and wellbeing.
Dr. Peraino received her Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Physiology from the University of California, Davis and received her medical degree from the Chicago Medical School, where she graduated with highest honors as a member of the Alpha Omega Honor Medical Society. She completed her internal medicine residency at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles, where she served as Chief Resident, and was awarded the Ben Newman MD Humanitarian Award from the Department of Internal Medicine’s residency training program in 2005 and 2006. She is currently a member of the American College of Physicians and The Obesity Society.

Leon Henderson-MacLennan, M.D.

Dr. Leon Henderson-MacLennan joined California Health & Longevity Institute, Inc. in 2013, having spent 20 years developing expertise in internal medicine, medical genetics, and applied health services research. Dr. Henderson-MacLennan was a faculty member at Cedars-Sinai
Medical Center in the Department of General Internal Medicine prior to arriving at CHLI. He has published abstracts and manuscripts for numerous peer-reviewed publications including those dedicated to critical appraisal of the medical literature in order to advance both preventive and therapeutic approaches to patient care. He has authored a chapter on genetic counseling for gastrointestinal patients; and has received several teaching awards for his work with medical students, residents, and fellows in both internal medicine and genetics.
Board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Henderson-MacLennan is a member of the American College of Physicians, the American Society of Human Genetics and several other professional societies. Dr. Henderson-MacLennan earned a Doctor of Medicine from Cornell University and a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics from Northwestern University. He completed an internship and a residency in internal medicine at Cedars-Sinai. He also completed a fellowship in medical genetics at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) after which he was appointed Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at the same institution.

Dr. Steven Tan is one of the country’s most comprehensively trained integrative physicians, and he has the rare distinction of holding medical degrees and board certification in both western
and eastern medicine. A graduate of the UCLA School of Medicine and the UCLA Internal Medicine Residency Program, he is board certified in internal medicine. Dr. Tan completed his Oriental medical degree and internship at Emperor’s College in Los Angeles. While studying in
China, he completed an externship in acupuncture and herbal medicine at the Hong Kong Baptist University Hospital.
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger appointed Dr. Tan to the California Acupuncture Board, where he was eventually elected Chairman. He previously served as an associate faculty member for the UCLA Center for Integrative Medicine and is on the external board of advisors to the UCLA Center for Human Nutrition and Dietary Supplements Research.

Christy has been with California Health & Longevity Institute, Inc. since shortly after graduating from Emperor’s College of Traditional Oriental Medicine in 2006. In addition to her master’s
degree, she earned a bachelor’s degree from UC Berkeley in International Health with an emphasis in Nutrition. Christy has had special training in the field of women’s health and she uses her knowledge to help women struggling with fertility, gynecological and menopausal issues.
In addition to acupuncture, Christy also uses Chinese herbal medicine in her treatments which can address a variety of health issues including allergies, pain, digestive disorders, insomnia and more.

Steve Chopyak, D.C.

Dr. Steve Chopyak brings 30 years of chiropractic clinical experience to California Health & Longevity Institute, Inc. Inspired by the restoration of his own health with chiropractic techniques, he uses gentle and natural methods that worked for his own back pain. Focusing on
whole person balance and health, Dr. Chopyak is experienced in many advanced techniques including low force Vector Point cranial treatment. When asked about his philosophy of chiropractic treatment, Dr. Chopyak says, “Because I had experience with a severe chronic condition myself, I am familiar with the experience of pain, physical limitations caused by pain, and its effect on lifestyle. When I treat patients, I work with the whole person so that the body’s different parts are all playing in natural rhythm and harmony with each other.”
He completed his chiropractic education at Northwestern Health Sciences University in Minneapolis, MN. While he is currently practicing in California, he has in the past practiced in Montana, Minnesota and Missouri, and is a former member of the teaching staff of the Cranio-Facial Pain Clinic at White Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles. Dr. Chopyak is also two-term past president of the Santa Monica Chapter of the California Chiropractic Association.

Dr. Roger Thai has been a living in the community and practicing dentistry at California Health & Longevity Institute, Inc. since 2007. Dr. Thai is best known for his “Zen-like” approach to life and philosophy of practicing dentistry. He is practical and humanistic to the wellbeing of oral health. Dr. Thai received a Health Professional Scholarship Program through the U.S. Air Force while attending University of The Pacific in 2001. He then completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry in 2002, with emphasis in crown, bridge and periodontic surgery. He was recently voted as one the Top Rated Dentist in Los Angeles. He practices with great conviction and compassion.
Outside of his professional career, Dr. Thai enjoys coaching basketball, football, and Track & Field. He has four beautiful children that occupy his time at home.

Dr. Rick Glassman has been practicing Advanced Restorative Dentistry for over three decades. His consistently solid work is why he is widely considered to be one of the top Advanced Restorative dentists in the United States. His eye for esthetic issues never compromises his overall dental health management. Dr. Glassman boasts a graduate degree from USC Dental School in1980, and then went on to become the Clinical Associate to Dr. Robert Gerber, Chief of Staff of the Cedars-Sinai Dental Division and donated his time for a division at the hospital that provided primary care to tens of thousands of indigent patients. Dr. Glassman founded and supervised the Beverly Hills Dental Laser Group, exploring the early frontiers of Laser Dental Bleaching/Whitening after studying with the creator of the Bright Smile Laser Whitening System.
With 15 on-screen film credits, Dr. Glassman is considered one of the industry’s go-to experts in dental special effects and has proven himself to be not only a dentist who cares about each of his patients’ individual needs, but an artist with a vision to suit the specific needs for any facet of the film, television and music industry.
In addition to his professional duties, Dr. Glassman is proud to support charitable organizations

Dr. Ronald Moy is a diplomat of the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery, American Board of Facial Cosmetic Surgery and the American Board of Dermatology. Dr. Moy was previously the President of the American Academy of Dermatology, American Society for Dermatologic Surgery and the American Board of Facial Cosmetic Surgery. He is a member of the American
Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery, is Senior Vice President of the Skin Cancer Foundation and is a Clinical Professor of the Keck School of Medicine of USC. He has been nominated as one of the “Best Doctors of America” and other similar peer nominated honors.
Dr. Moy has devoted his career to prevention and treatment of skin cancers along with the treatment of the aging face using DNA repair and growth factor creams. Dr. Moy uses the latest technology, creams, bio-identical hormones, injectables and procedures to prevent, tighten, fill and resurface aging skin. He utilizes fractional laser technology to resurface sun damaged skin and has developed some of the most innovative and least invasive techniques to tighten necks, eyes and faces. Dr. Moy has written and edited textbooks on the treatment and detection of skin cancer, cosmetic surgery, eyelifts and facelifts. Dr. Paul Lizzul is a diplomat of the American Board of Dermatology (board certified) and a faculty member of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) with a broad range of expertise in medical and aesthetic dermatology. Dr. Lizzul also serves as the Senior Medical Director for Kythera Biopharmaceuticals. Dr. Lizzul holds various leadership positions within the dermatologic field and previously served on the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Dermatology and Ophthalmic Drugs Advisory Committee.
Prior to joining California Health & Longevity Institute, Inc., Dr. Lizzul served as an Assistant Professor of Dermatology and Associate Director of Clinical Research at the Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, MA where he led investigator-initiated and industry-sponsored clinical trials, ran a medical and aesthetic practice, and trained the next generation of dermatology residents and medical students. Dr. Lizzul has published on a wide range of topics ranging from aesthetic medicine to psoriasis and heath care reform.
A Summa Cum Laude graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Dr. Lizzul received his M.D. degree, Ph.D. degree in Molecular Genetics and Microbiology, and M.P.H. in Epidemiology from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (Rutgers), Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Dr. Lizzul also received an M.B.A. in entrepreneurship from the Rutgers Business School. When he’s not practicing at California Health & Longevity Institute, Inc., Jeff can be found practicing at Moy Fincher Chipps Facial Plastics & Dermatology in Beverly Hills, where he trained with the leaders of the field. Andrew Deutsch, M.D.

Dr. Andrew Deutsch, a nationally respected expert in skeletal radiology and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), serves as Director of Imaging at California Health & Longevity Institute. Born and raised in New York City and educated at Columbia University, Dr. Deutsch received his training in diagnostic radiology at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), where he did his residency, served as Chief Resident, and did his fellowship training.
Dr. Deutsch is well known for his original contributions to the medical literature in the area of skeletal radiology and musculoskeletal and spinal MRI. He is the author of over 50 original scientific papers and has authored four textbooks utilized throughout the world to educate radiologists and orthopedic surgeons on musculoskeletal MRI. His first textbook, MRI of the Musculoskeletal System, was reviewed in the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine as ‘the one textbook to own to learn musculoskeletal MRI’.

Phillip Tirman, M.D.

Dr. Phillip Tirman is an internationally recognized expert in the applications of Magnetic Resonance Imaging for evaluating orthopedic, sports medicine, and spine disorders. He is the co-author of three textbooks, including MRI of the Shoulder and Diagnostic Imaging:
Orthopaedics. He has also authored or co-authored over sixty original scientific articles published in the radiology and orthopedic literature.
A native of Arkansas, Dr. Tirman attended both college and medical school at the University of Arkansas. He did his radiology residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and did fellowship training in magnetic resonance imaging at Cottage Community Magnetic Resonance Center in Santa Barbara and the San Francisco Magnetic Resonance Center (SFMRC) in San Francisco where he continue to practice and was named Medical Director. Dr. Tirman has also worked with the prestigious National Orthopedic Imaging Associates Group.
Dr. Tirman is a manuscript reviewer for Radiology, the American Journal of Roentgenology, and the Journal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging. He is a widely sought lecturer and has spoken at over fifty international meetings and has been a pioneer of continuing medical education
utilizing webinar technology. Dr. Tirman is also a food and wine connoisseur and is the author of the popular book The Wine and Food Lover’s Diet, which was a James Beard award nominee.

Ravreet Cheema is a credentialed Clinical Research Coordinator with the Association of Clinical Research Professionals. She comes to California Health & Longevity Institute with an immense passion for research and health outcomes. She earned her Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology in 2013 and is currently in pursuit of her Doctorate at California Lutheran University. Ravreet has worked in the research sector for the past 6 years, on clinical trials focused on investigation of biomarkers, wearable medical devices and investigations supporting health and wellness. Her main focus is ensuring the proper and efficient dissemination of study protocols and study procedure planning. She works in collaboration with the Medical Director and Principal Investigator to establish operating policies and procedures, as well as data analysis
and management.

Born into a family of Spa Professionals in Northern California, Damien Craft knew that he would be involved in the spa industry at a very early age. Craft quickly became a certified Massage Therapist and held lead positions in day spas and health clubs throughout the Central Coast of California. Moving into management was a natural progression and Craft showed great success in senior management positions at Bacara Resort & Spa, Chumash Casino Resort, Grand Wailea Resort, La Quinta Resort & Club and PGA West, and Sawgrass Marriott. Now a Regional Spa Director of Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, Craft oversees eight spas but is based out of Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village, the largest spa in the Four Seasons brand. Here, he oversees every aspect of our 14,000 square-foot facility, including our 28 treatment rooms.

With more than 30 years of experience, Paulette is a nationally recognized expert in weight management, diabetes, heart disease prevention and cardiac care, cancer prevention and management, obesity, gastrointestinal disorders, food allergies, supplements, sports training and more. With such a depth of knowledge, she has a profound ability to translate the latest scientific medical research in nutrition into tips and strategies easily understood by consumers. As the Director of Nutrition, Paulette develops the nutrition and culinary programs and protocols for individuals and groups. She is also a sought-after public speaker for corporate meetings and conferences and has lectured extensively for the American Diabetes Association. Paulette’s passion for delicious food and cooking allows her to create recipes and teach classes in the Wellness Kitchen that provide guests with real tools to implement healthy eating habits.

Erika earned a Masters Degree in Clinical Nutrition from Tufts University while completing her dietetic training at the Tufts-New England Medical Center. Her graduate work included a review of dietary antioxidants and related anti-cancer benefits. She has experience in both pediatric and adult weight management and obesity from the Massachusetts General Hospital Weight Center. She is a member of the American Dietetic Association and Weight Management Dietetic Practice Group.

Diane Grabowski-Nepa, M.S., R.D.

Diane is a Registered Dietitian with a Master’s Degree from Clemson University. She is the former Director of Nutrition at the Pritikin Longevity Center, Santa Monica, California. Diane has been educating individuals and groups on nutrition for over 30 years. Her areas of expertise include cardiovascular disease, hypertension, weight loss, type 2 diabetes, children’s nutrition, pregnancy and sports nutrition. She is the co-author of the book, The L.A. Diet, an eating plan designed to help individuals achieve permanent weight loss by making lifestyle changes and choosing healthier foods, not by deprivation or restricting calories. She has contributed her expertise to a variety of magazines including Prevention, Shape, Fitness, Self and Men’s Health as well as TV shows such as Alive and Well, The Home and Family Show and CNBC. She has also shared her cooking and nutrition knowledge as a contributing author to a children’s cookbook, The Sleepover Cookbook. She is an avid runner and has maintained her own weight loss of 50 pounds for over 30 years by adopting a lifestyle of healthy eating and exercise.

Tracy completed her training as a Registered Dietitian and earned a master’s degree in Public Health at Loma Linda University. Prior to returning to graduate school, Tracy attended culinary school and worked as a chef in restaurants in the Los Angeles area. In addition to working with clients at the California Health & Longevity Institute, Tracy works as a clinical dietitian in the hospital setting. She is a Board Certified Specialist in Oncology Nutrition.

Therese Farrell has been a Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator for more than 20 years. She received a bachelor’s degree in biology from Loyola Marymount University and completed a master’s degree in dietetics and dietetic internship from California State University at Northridge. She has vast experience in both the inpatient and outpatient settings and enjoys working with all ages from pediatrics through geriatrics. She is experienced in medical nutrition therapy for chronic diseases such as heart disease and kidney disease as well as disease prevention. A certified pump trainer and expert in all aspects of diabetes care including diet, weight control, and medication management, her passion is helping people living with diabetes learn how to care for themselves.

Evette has 30 years of experience in clinical nutrition and nutrition education. She has worked in private practice, providing nutrition counseling to groups and individuals in cardiac care, diabetes, weight control, gastrointestinal disorders, and vegetarian diets among other topics. She holds a Masters of Science in nutrition from California State University, Los Angeles, and completed her dietetic internship at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, MA. Evette is certified as a personal trainer and serves as a member of the American Dietetic Association, Sports, Cardiovascular and Wellness Nutritionists, and Nutrition in Complimentary Care.

Scott has been providing Southern California with first-class training, exercise testing, programming and health education for over 10 years. His philosophy is that fitness should be enjoyable and part of a well balanced, healthy lifestyle. Scott holds a Masters of Science in Kinesiology from Arizona School of Health Sciences, AT Still University, a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo with an emphasis in Clinical Health-Site Work Promotion. Scott is also a Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist with the American College of Sports Medicine and is certified with the National Academy of Sports Medicine as a Corrective Exercise Specialist.

Alison Ross is a licensed marriage and family therapist specializing in eating and body image. Earning her Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University she has served on the executive board of the Los Angeles Chapter of the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals and assisted in the launch of the Susan B. Krevoy Eating Disorder Intensive Outpatient Program. As an activist in the prevention of eating disorders, Ross is a regular guest speaker at UCLA on the topic. She serves as a faculty member for CHLI’s newly launched Weight Loss Your Way program and lectures on topics such as How Stress Effects Hunger & Cravings, Mindful Eating, A Healthy Mindset and Moving Forward with Focus. Ross is a local to the Conejo Valley with her husband, two children and two dogs.

Vaughan Kastor, M.A.

Vaughan Kastor has a M.A. from CSUN in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Exercise Physiology and is an Advanced Certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. In 1994, he started his own in-home personal training business and built a solid client base of executive professionals and athletes. Prior to that, he worked at a premier Los Angeles based health club as the Education Coordinator and Personal Trainer.
