Project Transformation Winner: Kasi Beutel

June 28, 2010 - 3:00PM

“Part of why I need this transformation is to help me stay safe - so I don’t become a statistic.”

Kasi Beutel, one of our Project Transformation winners from Newbury Park, California, is similar in many ways to a comic book superhero. By day she is a soccer mom, taking care of her three young children. By night, she guards the community in the role of police officer with the city of Santa Barbara.

Kasi joined the police force in 2006 after graduating from the Police Academy. Due to the demanding training she received at the Academy, she was in the best shape of her life upon commencement. Unfortunately, her health and level of fitness has since declined - a considerable danger in her particular line of work. While working the overnight shift to protect the community from intoxicated drivers, she routinely chases, physically apprehends and arrests suspects. In addition to these “routine” duties, Kasi never knows what unexpected risks or actions a suspect may take on any given night.

Anticipating the known and unknown elements of her job requires a high level of physical fitness to perform at optimum levels. Kasi entered Project Transformation at California Health & Longevity Institute to get back on track to being healthy and fit enough to protect herself in her occupation. She is well on her way to accomplishing this through rigorous personal training sessions focused on strength and endurance and informational nutrition consultations to learn how to eat right, particularly on the overnight shift. During her health strategies sessions, she learns how to manage stress and how to balance work with her family life.

When she completes her transformation program in October, Kasi is aiming to be in the best shape of her life for a second time, ensuring that she comes home safely to her children after every single shift.

Project Transformation Winner: Christy Routon

June 21, 2010 - 9:30AM

“I’m motivated to change the legacy of my life and show my daughters healthy habits.”

Project Transformation winner Christy Routon is an aesthetician who lives and works in Moorpark, California. As a single mother to two grown children and one very active 15-year-old daughter, Christy entered Project Transformation with a very personal goal. More than anything, she wants to be healthy and fit enough to go for a run with her youngest daughter, who is a cross country runner for her school.

In the past, Christy always prioritized the needs of her children over her own, and due to this she has been traveling in the reverse direction health-wise for the past 20 years. Recently, however, she has been working her way back towards the person she wants to be on the inside, but needs to learn the necessary skills from the experts at California Health & Longevity Institute to transform herself on the outside.

With a family history of obesity, heart disease, cancer, stroke and diabetes, Christy is also very motivated to change directions in her life to avoid these negative health consequences. She now feels that she is finally in the correct place and mindset to make positive changes in her life.

At the Institute, Christy has been participating in a custom-designed transformation program that includes hypnotherapy and energy healing sessions with Barbara Savin, the Institute’s Clinical Hypnotherapist and Energy Healing Specialist. These treatments have enabled her to embark on her external transformation journey. Together with education in nutrition, fitness and life balance, she hopes to improve her well-being before, she says, “it’s too late.”

Project Transformation Winner: Percy Vaz

June 17, 2010 - 2:00PM

“This is the perfect time to improve the quality of my life.”

As a real estate developer from Westlake Village, California, Project Transformation winner Percy Vaz spent the past 30 years of his life contributing to the community by building affordable housing for a living. In addition to a busy career, Percy raised four daughters who are now grown. Currently, as he approaches retirement and begins to think about the next phase of life, he wants to concentrate on making healthy changes. With his wife, Lux, and his daughters’ support, he knows that it is finally time to focus on himself.

When his daughters heard about Project Transformation, they encouraged him to enter because they’re concerned about their father’s present state of health. More than anything, they want their dad to be healthy enough to walk them down the aisle and to be able to play with his future grandchildren. They knew that Project Transformation would be an effective way for him to learn nutrition, fitness and life balance strategies to control his diabetes. Through Project Transformation, Percy has the opportunity to implement lasting lifestyle changes which can help increase his longevity and see his family’s wishes fulfilled.

Percy’s main goals upon beginning the journey are to improve his well-being, slow down the negative effects of aging and control his diabetic condition. He is doing this with the full support of the women in his life who are constantly telling him: “Now is the time to take care of Dad!”

Project Transformation Winner: Dave Fugleberg

June 10, 2010 - 8:00AM

“I need the energy and the strength to go forward for the next 30, 40, 50 years.”

Project Transformation winner Dave Fugleberg is an aerospace and mechanical engineer from Westlake Village, California. Dave grew up in the Panama Canal Zone and was very active as a child, participating in many outdoor activities such as camping, hiking and racing canoes. He attended college at the United States Merchant Marine Academy, where he achieved his pinnacle of fitness by participating in crew for a short period of time during his freshman year and the rugby team throughout his junior and senior years. Upon graduation, he took a job refueling nuclear reactors all over the U.S. and Europe, a position that also required a high level of fitness.

However, as Dave grew older and gained more experience, he was promoted into sedentary, office-based occupations. The combination of the those jobs and an increasingly inactive lifestyle took a toll on him, leaving Dave with excess weight and a desire to change his daily routines in order to return to his previous health, all of which led to his entry in Project Transformation.

Upon beginning the program, Dave’s goals are to lose weight, exercise regularly and become more active to regain the mobility and energy levels that he once had. As a current MBA student at Pepperdine University, he also needs the strength and energy to balance his rigorous academic studies with his career. He is currently working with the experts at California Health & Longevity Institute to reach his peak, both personally and professionally.

Project Transformation Winner: Sophia Fischer

June 03, 2010 - 7:00PM

“I want to inspire others in the same situation as me to change their lives.”

Sophia Fischer, one of our eight Project Transformation winners, is a freelance journalist from Oak Park, California. As a mother to four grown children, Sophia spent most of her adult life caring for her family and focusing all of her energy on them. For many years, her personal health and wellness came second to the needs of her husband and children. Work and sitting at a computer for long hours also contributed to her situation. She applied to Project Transformation at California Health & Longevity Institute as a means to put her own personal health and well-being first.

In the past, Sophia tried a variety of exercise and dietary patterns that did not produce results. Through Project Transformation, she is now learning new and successful strategies for achieving optimal health from the experts at the Institute. These new strategies are already resulting in positive changes.

When she finishes the Project Transformation program, she looks forward to reaching her goal of sticking with an effective and sustainable exercise regimen. As a result, she knows she will feel energetic and happy throughout the day, make smarter food choices, cook healthfully and, most of all, set a better example for her children to lead a long, healthy and productive life.
